My name is Joey Mulvey
and I am an NYC based actor.
It was a normal day in my hometown of North Haven, Connecticut and I sat in the backseat of a friend’s mother’s car when I was asked if I would be interested in joining the ensemble of a community theatre’s production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. There was no audition required, it was just a matter of showing up to rehearsals and seeing what I thought. At this point I was knee deep in the average life of a young queer kid in a small town trying his hardest to not stand out, but for whatever reason I still trusted my gut and went to my first rehearsal. It was a feeling I’ve never felt before; an overwhelming sensation of being welcomed into a community without any questions. It was a feeling I have strived to bring to every rehearsal I ever begin or person I meet because as an artist there is nothing better than being comfortable with being vulnerable and as a person there is nothing better than knowing you could make some feel welcomed, accepted, and loved.
As of May 17th, 2019 I will be a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College with my BFA in acting, but more importantly I will be leaving college with the desire to make change within the industry. Each day is a new day to bring joy and laughter into someone’s life and I don’t miss an opportunity to do so. Besides being an actor first (singer in the shower second), I am also very passionate about long walks on the beach, enjoying coffee in Central Park, and searching for that perfect bottle of wine (any suggestions?).
